How to Send Money to an Inmate in Vanderburgh County Jail

Vanderburgh County Visitation Rules and Schedules

Visits to the Vanderburgh County Jail are conducted via a video conferencing portal. First, visitors have to create an account on the portal, either online or at the jail lobby kiosk. Remote visits can take place at home using a computer and a stable internet connection. These remote sessions are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day.

In-person video visits, on the other hand, take place in the jail lobby on normal business days, Monday through Friday. While these visits are free, visitors must still schedule at least 24 hours in advance. Inmates are allowed three on-site visits per week. Visitors under 18 must be an immediate family member of the inmate and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. All visits, except for those with attorneys or professional visitors, may be monitored by jail staff.

Visitation Dress Code and Behavior

In an effort to keep a safe and professional environment for all visitors, the jail mandates visitors to follow the dress code below:

  • Wear shoes and shirts at all times.
  • Wear one layer of clothing (no sweaters over tank tops).
  • Tank tops, halter tops, transparent clothing, shorts or skirts that are two inches above the knee, as well as accessories like hats, hoods, scarves, and jackets, are not permitted.

Visitation can be revoked for misconduct. Nudity, sexual acts, or drug use are not permitted during the video session. Live video streaming to social media sites during a visit is strictly forbidden. Children must be supervised throughout the visit, or the session may end early. Finally, visitors cannot take food, drinks, or phones into the visitation booths.

Certain items are not permitted, such as care packages, homemade cards, glitter, and anything with crayon or marker on it. Certain types of content are not permitted, such as erotic content and cut-outs from magazines and newspapers.

The local jail has a special program called FreshFavorites to encourage good behavior amongst inmates. This program lets family members buy meals for their loved ones via an online portal. As of this publication, buyers have five different meals to choose from, but these options may change based on what the inmates say they like.
